Introduction to Class in Warcraft. The Warrior
Posted in Gadgets on 09. Feb, 2010
Many new players start with Warriors as their first class. Indeed early in the game, whilst levelling up it can seem a simple class to play. However, once you start playing in groups and raids, the warrior takes on a whole new role.
Playing a Warrior in a group of players, you need to understand your role. Warriors in groups have only once real role to play, that of “tank”.
A tank is a character that is able to confront the largest, meanest foes head on. Taking and absorbing as much damage as possible for the rest of the team.
In a group A Warriors role in Warcraft is not really to cause the most damage, it is to absorb it. This gives time for the other group members to do two major jobs.
Your allies need to keep you healed. The groups healers will focus on the tank and make sure you are constantly being healed. Some of the elite foes can cause massive damage very quickly.
Then of course there are the damage dealers. Often ranged classes, capable of standing back and sending out massive amounts of damage. These classes are not built to withstand damage like the tank, but they can certainly dish it out. They are often termed DPS (Damage per second) classes.
Another team position that is sometimes required in larger raids is CC (Crowd control) The main enemy may well have a team of lesser foes who will try and attack you, possibly making you lose focus on the main foe. Crowd control job is to slow, freeze (or even “Sheep”) these other enemies allowing you to focus on the big boss.
In summary, “tanking” is the main role of a warrior. Take on the biggest enemy. For that you need very high stamina and massive amounts of plate armor. You use “threat” to make sure that the baddest mobs in the room target you.
Despite what you may initially think, Warriors are a very difficult class to play end game. Without the luxury of having different roles to play in a raid, you are always going to be a tank. Standing up to the toughest mobs you can find. Still feel up to it?
